especially when it’s late and i can’t sleep i
remember the sharks and how i used to
swim with them and i realize how much i
miss them
it’s probably not the marine life that i miss as
much as the arms that they were permanently
inked on

i read this a while ago and i didn’t know how to respond.
i worry you’re unhappy. i worry you miss the past.
but when i see you with kimmy and she’s doing something silly and you’re laughing, smiling so vividly, i am reassured that you’re happy.
who needs the marine life when you live in the desert? we have prickly cactus and slithering lizards to keep us entertained.
